Early last month, Hines Management from the Markets at Town Center contacted Joy Young, Executive Director of the Cultural Council with a great proposition. They had an empty storefront and approached Joy to see if the Cultural Council would like to use the space over the holidays to create a Pop-Up Art Gallery. Joy contacted us right away since we had experience converting retail space to an art gallery and thought we should partner on the project. She also contacted a number of other local artists, including TAC members Ed Malesky and Stephen Dunn to help design the gallery and determine how best to get local artists to become part of the venture, now named ART See & Shop.
The collaboration was amazing and within a short time all the artists and Joy had created a plan. With support from Hines, the space started being converted to gallery space. A Call to Artists went out and within a short time over 40 local artists had agreed to participate. In addition to visual artists, performance artists are also involved. The Grand Opening was November 2nd, with music and food and a lot of art.
Regular hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday and the Art Pop-Up will be open until December 21st. ARTSee & Shop is at 4870-5 Big Island Drive in Jacksonville between Versona and Kirkland’s.
