How do I become an Art Center artist?

What is the member meeting schedule?
Artists must go through the annual jury process to become an Art Center artist. All artists working in fine arts and fine crafts are eligible. Fine crafts include such work as ceramics, textiles, jewelry, sculpture, glass, and more.
The Jury is scheduled monthly, prior to the general meeting. Work should be dropped off at the Main Gallery no later than 3:15 pm, and must be picked up prior to the general meeting at 4:00 pm.
• Applications will be accepted and given to the lead for the jury committee.
• The lead will contact prospective members.
• The Jury will take place prior to the general meetings on the 3rd Saturday of each month.
• Each applicant must send a website address of a minimum of 5 images in jpeg format to the lead of the jury committee prior to the meeting of the jury. The applicant must also bring 5 additional pieces to the gallery no later than 3:15 pm on the day of the jury. All art must be must be picked up prior to the general meeting at 4:00 pm.
• The applicant will be notified by email or letter of the decision of the Jury Committee.
• If accepted the applicant must complete a contract, remit payment to the treasurer and sign up for work hours prior to displaying their artwork.
You will be notified by email no later than Monday following the Jury process.
There is a panel of 3 jurors selected from the jury committee.
All contracts are for a minimum of 6 months, and require a 2 month written resignation notice. Upon jury selection, the applicant becomes a general member.
1. General membership in the Art Center is one hundred fifty ($150) due yearly or a payment of $75 each in April and October with a 30% commission to the gallery. This allows each member to display 1 piece or 2 small works on a designated wall or designated space for sculptures in the gallery. General members also receive an artist page featuring 2 images of their work, artist statement, and contact information (with non-active links to their website.) This membership requires the member to work in the gallery 3 hours per month, be actively involved in at least 1 committee and participate on a regular basis at special functions, art walks, featured artist shows and community projects.
2. Hanging membership is $60 yearly (due in October) and $40 monthly with a 20% commission to the gallery. This membership allows each member to display their artwork in an 8’ space or designated space for sculptures. Hanging members also receive an artist page featuring 2 images of their work, artist statement, contact information (with active links to their website), and their own web photo album. This membership requires the member to work in the gallery 6 hours per month be actively involved in at least 1 committee and participate on a regular basis at special functions, art walks, featured artist shows and community projects.
Hanging members are selected from the general membership and is based on current dues, work hours, and participation in committees and community outreach and activities.
3. Group membership is defined as any organization of 3 or more members and is open to any art group regardless of age, race, or economic background. All groups must be juried in. Each art group will be given 1 Featured Artist show per year. Group shows will be promoted the same as individual Featured Artist shows. Each group will have 1 panel to display information regarding their group. Group members will have reduced rent of $25 in the hall space at the Main Gallery on Art Walk nights. Dues will be paid in full on or before October 1st of each year. Group members may serve on committees or participate in special projects and events to fulfill their hours. Group members are also expected to promote The Art Center in any way they can. In addition to membership fees, group members will pay a 30% commission on all artwork sold through The Art Center. Groups joining The Art Center after October 31 will have rates prorated for the first year.
Group Costs: Groups of 5 or less -- $200 per year (approx. $40-$67 per member)
Groups of 6-15 -- $350 per year (approx. $23-$58 per member)
Groups of 16-25 -- $500 per year (approx. $20-$31 per member)
Groups of over 25 -- $650 per year (approx. $26 per member)
If a group has members that are already individual members of The Art Center, then group membership is reduced by that number. (Example: A group has 26 members, 3 are members of The Art Center, then the group cost would be calculated at 23 members)
Group Options: Providing there is availability, in addition to the general memberships, groups may purchase monthly wall space, at $40 per month. All rules that apply to hanging member’s wall space also apply to the group. Group Obligation to The Art Center: Each art group needs to work collective hours as follows:
Groups of 5 or less -- 6 hours per month
Groups of 6-15 -- 15 hours per month
Groups of 16-25 -- 25 hours per month
Groups over 25 -- 35 hours per month

Member meetings are held on the fourth Monday evening of the month from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. unless otherwise noted. They take place in the Main Gallery at 31 West Adams Street in Downtown Jacksonville. Parking is available on the street. Parking meters do not run after 6:00 P.M.
