Emily Timmons is a Jacksonville-based sculptor, whose work brings humor through visual puns, surrealism, and absurd storytelling. Her eclectic body of work spans a range of topics, from alien spaceships and dinosaurs to charming miniature buildings in a fictitious small town. Focusing on lighthearted themes and playful concepts, Timmons evokes joy and laughter from her audience. Timmons graduated from the University of North Florida in 2024 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in sculpture. Her passion for metal fabrication stems from the ability to create clean, strong forms, bringing her imaginative ideas to life.
Her work has been showcased in notable venues, including the UNF Seaside Sculpture Park and the Jacksonville International Airport. |
Artist Statement:
Welcome to Hobbs Creek is inspired by my travels across the U.S., using my GPS to avoid highways, seeking untold stories of small-town America. Each town, marked by familiar sights—Dollar Generals, water towers, farms—invited curiosity but often remained unexplored, leaving me to imagine the lives behind them.
This installation presents Hobbs Creek, an imaginary town that embodies the essence of small-town USA. Here, a graffiti-tagging teenager reflects youthful defiance against fading history. A recent fire destroyed the library, claiming the life of the librarian. The names of the postmaster and librarian are etched into the town, whispering tales of lost love. The ice cream parlor, founded by the retired fire chief, stands in bittersweet contrast, while a motorcycle-riding construction worker waits at the train station for a long-distance lover.
Through Hobbs Creek, I invite you to wander this imagined landscape, exploring the beauty and tragedy that often go unnoticed.
