Denise was born in New York City, raised in Miami by parents of Southern and Bahamian descent. I have a BA degree from Howard University, an MS degree from Boston University, and a Doctor of Management degree in Organizational Leadership. For 30+ years she supported management training and leadership development efforts for Burger King Corporation, Ryder, Eastman Kodak, BMW of North America, and the Wounded Warrior Project.
Prior to 2016 Denise had never drawn, painted a picture, or assembled a mask. She finds faces quite intriguing because of the beauty, depth and character conveyed in the eyes, noses, lips, hair, and expressions of faces. Her work consists primarily of composite likenesses of faces portrayed in photographs or pictures. To date, Denise’s creations have been selected for juried shows and displayed at various local art fairs. Her art can be found in the homes and offices of art enthusiasts and collectors from Jacksonville, Maryland, DC, Atlanta, Savannah, Orlando, Port St. Lucie, Miami, New York, and Boston. Denise won a blue ribbon for best in show for a mixed media creation entitled, “Textures” in 2018 and an honorable mention in 2021 for a work entitled, “08:46”. Locally, she has displayed her creative work at The Art Cooperative of Jacksonville, Riverside Arts Market, Reddi Arts, The Florida Ballet, Beaches Fine Arts events, and Players by The Sea Theater. |
Denise has been challenging herself to incorporate mixed media to add texture, interest, and novelty to faces on canvas by using papers, gemstones, and stencils. In 2022, she expanded her portfolio to include a mask assemblage collection made of and adorned with wood, corrugated cardboard, found objects, flatware, and recycled materials.
