Reception July 2nd, 2025 during Artwalk
Bronwen Chandler is a native of New Zealand and grew up in Christchurch, a city situated about midway along the East Coast of the South Island, in view of the magnificently scenic Southern Alps. It was in Christchurch, known as the “Garden City”, that she learned to fully appreciate her surroundings and began to develop her passion for art.
Bronwen characterizes herself as a late bloomer, for although she took several classes in painting off and on over the years, her primary career was in technology working as a Business Systems Analyst and Project Manager. She felt there was never enough mental energy left to devote to creating art, but found other means of artistic expression through gardening, and piano. In recent years, she has thrown herself wholeheartedly into the arts. Bronwen loves the bright sunlight, the abundant wetlands, and the coastal scenery around Jacksonville, where she now resides, and finds material for her paintings everywhere. Painting in blues and greens is a favorite, but she finds it important to “change up” and find other subjects to paint to keep her work fresh. |
A trip to Asheville, NC during the peak of the Fall season inspired her to introduce brilliant autumn colors in a continuing body of seasonal works. She also paints en plein air and has produced a collection of artwork both plein air and studio pieces following a week-long workshop in Tuscany.
She has recently completed a second term on the Board of the First Coast Plein Air Painters, and belongs to the St. Augustine Art Association, the Jacksonville Artists Guild, and First Coast Artists.
