Spring Never Sleeps
Spring Never Sleeps by Ed Malesky. Inspiration for this piece was from Neil Young's "Rust Never Sleeps" and all the plants you see growing through cracks in the sidewalk. In both cases, it was clear that nature would find a way, whether rust or flowers. I took the cherry with a crack along its length and envisioned a sprig of flowers growing, even though the crack was narrow.
The woodturning part of this piece was easy since I have made many hollow forms. However, the flowers were something new. I had to learn how to create realistic flowers using air-dry clay. I created many different kinds of flowers to develop basic skills and then created this sprig of flowers using pastels to add the shading.
This is part of Ed's Featured Artist Exhibit. This exhibit runs from May 27th - June 17th, 2023. Please come to the Reception on June 11th from 2-4pm. The pieces can be purchased online, but we ask that you wait till the end of the exhibit to pick up your piece.
