Jacksonville From the Back of the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens by Robyn Freedman
During my past several visits to the Cummer Museum I have been drawn to a spot that is like a perch overlooking the gardens and the city of Jacksonville. I have taken photos of it during different seasons and watched it thin out, become full, and seen the colors change from dark to full of life in rich hues. This extraordinary spot symbolizes Jacksonville in its timeless beauty, design, history and colors, displaying all of our natural resources within our senses. I have painted this spot three times now. And honestly, I might paint it again. Although time wants to stand still in this spot, you can feel the warmth, energy, and growth all around it. Mother Nature takes care of it as well as we do. This special location is a living painting of Jacksonville, and I am honored to be a part of the history of this event.
This piece is part of the “Jacksonville Past and Present” Bicentennial Exhibition.
