Riverside Park 1908 by Peggy Harrell Jennings
The painting of Riverside Park 1908 is a labor of love for one of my favorite places in Jacksonville. I grew up in Riverside and have always enjoyed the park as a child and as an adult with my grandchildren. I used to ride my bicycle over there and steal camellias when the gorgeous plants were there. And now it's a wonderful sanctuary for egrets where I spend a lot of time with my camera. This painting is a throwback to the early days of the park when there was a bridge and boating in the lake. I "imagined" the scene by studying several antique postcards from family members.
This piece is part of the “Jacksonville Past and Present” Bicentennial Exhibition.
