It's a Sunshine State of Mind -Framed Print
During the pandemic, I reminisced about my childhood and visiting my grandparents in Florida. My brothers, sister, and I were ecstatic to cross the border to the State. It meant sunshine, water, sand, family, and so much more. We would stop at a diner, and I was in awe of all the attractions on my Florida paper placemat. I still love when a restaurant has those wonderful images-filled maps of the State showing palm trees, oranges, fishing, swimming, boating, spaceships, Flamingos, Pirate Ships, and so much more…
We moved to Florida in the 1970s, and this state's essence is now such a part of my family and me; it made me want to illustrate how special and diverse it is. With this series, I hope to relate some Florida facts through fun and vivid images that appeal to locals and tourists. I want to take the public on vacation through time, to see Florida through my eyes growing up as a resident and a tourist. For natives, I hope to transport them back to a happy place and perhaps a forgotten memory.
You may have noticed there is often an orange or an orange item in each of the paintings. See if you can find the orange in “Sea Florida at Marineland.” It’s hidden.
