"Heer Ranjha" - Devotional Nodes by artist Dr. Daljit Kaur is a wonderful acrylic mixed media piece created in 2020. Dr. Kaur bases many of her works on Punjab folklore.
Heer Ranjha references a popular romantic tragedy of the Punjab region of India through color and Abstraction. Heer was an extremely beautiful young lady, born in a wealthy family of the Sial tribe, now in Pakistan after partition. Dheedo, a Jat of the Ranjha (a surname)
The tribe was the youngest of four brothers from village Takht Hazara by the river Chenab. Ranjha left his home because his brothers' wives refused to give him food being single and he reaches Heer's village and falls in love with her. Ranjha used to herding cattle of Heer’s father and was fond of playing Flute. Heer was mesmerised by his flute and they used to meet each other secretly for many years until they were caught by Heer's jealous uncle, Kaidon, and her parents Chuchak and Malki and Heer was forced to marry another man.
