Captured during a rare night departure, this is an image of the Jacksonville based Carnival Cruise Lines ship “Elation” as it passed under the Dames Point Bridge on a stormy evening. The contrast between the ship’s colorful bright lights (which are also reflected in the surface of the river) and the cloud darkened skies dramatizes the idea of “escape” that is so often associated with the idea of cruise vacations.
This piece is part of the "Sailing Along the St Johns" Art Exhibition. The Exhibit runs from August 7th - September 30th, 2023. You are invited to visit from 12-5 Mon-Sat or accept an invitation to our opening reception on August 13th, 2023 from 2-4pm. There will be an awards ceremony, food, drink, and an opportunity to speak to the artists.
