Break Free From…
Break Free From… by Artist Annelies Dykgraaf is a red and blue print matted.
This is a hand pulled linoleum print depicting the soles of shoes that have traveled through time and history referencing slavery but also present time occurrences of wrongful arrests and treatment with the chains/handcuffs and lynchings. The fisted hand represents fighting for equality and the ladder also refers to this in "climbing out of" and "reaching for or rising above" situations. The fish represent people, along with the 2 masks and the floating stick figure, that have been carried over waters, "caught" as to speak by the hook that need to be free like a bird and offered an olive branch. This also won 2nd place in our Unity & Equality show.
This work is featured in Unity & Equality Exhibit. IT WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR PICK UP TILL AFTER THE END OF THE EXHIBITION ON FEBRUARY 27TH.
