Armored was a long time in the making. Recently I have been fascinated by this shape and have made some pieces based on it, but this time I wanted to add a special treatment to the surface. I have created many of my turnings with pieces added to the surface to tally change the impression that is presented just by the shape. In this case I added 240 turned and decorated “knobs” in two layers to a hollowed camphor core projecting impenetrability – like armor. Each of the “knobs” were first primed, then painted with metal paint and painted one more time with the metal paint and while still wet they were sprayed with patinating chemicals which turned the copper in the paint an oxidized blue.
