Magnolia State (654)
The Magnolia State (654) by Artist Marsha Hatcher is part of her poignant exhibit about the lynching of African American Men, Women, and Children in our country and individual states. Through digital art she intelligently enlightens us with the approximate number of reported lynchings in each state. In this case Mississippi. Marsha started by creating small portraits on rocks. Using as many faces as she could find of people killed without cause. The rocks were photographed and then the state flags layered over top with the startling numbers.
