Trigeminal Neuralgia I, II, & III Triptych - NP
Trigeminal Neuralgia I, II, & III by Douglas Johnson
This is a Triptych of The Pain Before, The Gamma Knife Surgery, and The Peace to Follow.
Trigeminal Neuralgia Comments
Trigeminal neuralgia from inflammation of the brain’s 5th cranial nerve is often severely debilitating. Simply touching the face or even chewing can precipitate severe and debilitating pain.
Pain medications offer transient relief. Radical surgery is fraught with complications. Gamma Knife Radiosurgery, since the 1990s, uses a single outpatient treatment with tightly focused radiation and often eliminates the pain within a few days, with minimal side effects.
This triptych depicts the before, during, and after aspects of the GK treatment: the inflamed cranial nerve exiting the brainstem, the focused radiation blast, and the subsequent calm nerve and surrounding tissues.
