About the Show
Juror: Ted Head
Ted’s work has been published in American Artist magazine, SPLASH 11 and SPLASH 16, the Best of America Watercolor Artists & Artisians. He has also won over 80 awards, including a dozen “Best of” and 1st place awards for his oils and watercolors, and has become a popular workshop instructor and show judge. Ted believes that when his brush dances between imagination and reality, something magical can happen. When it does, the emotional connection between him and his subject says it all. Design, values and color are the means to express a moment in time, captured in dramatic watercolor or oils. An avid kayaker, his paintings show a fascination with light and color, depicting nature’s beauty, wildlife, pets, and people. www.tedheadfineart.com |
First Place
Waterfall in Spring Garden by Laurence Walden
This painting shouts Spring in all its glory. The different plants are beautifully done in oil, acrylic and watercolor. What’s amazing to me is that with all the bright colors and objects, there is a harmony of balance in this piece. The splash of light at the top of the waterfall adds the perfect focal point to begin your travel around this marvelous piece. Well done!
First Place Award was sponsored in memory of Artist Janet Jurgens Adragna |
Second Place
The Guardian by Donna Chapman Grasso
hat a tender, pastoral scene. The light and play of shadows and the warm/cool hues draw the viewer in. Celebrating new birth captures the theme of Spring in an expert, painterly manner. Quite moving!

Third Place
Koi by Farhara Hasan
What a stunning image this is, the colors, the flow, the movement, the design…all combine to make this a spectacular piece. The gold of the koi is striking, as is the fading of its tail into the blackness. Just mesmerizing!

Honorable Mention
Nasturtiums by Jessie Cook
I was charmed by the simplicity of this painting and the painterly effects. The nasturtiums blooming in front of the multicolor fence announce that Spring is here. It’s a very inviting scene and well crafted. Congratulations!
