About the Show
Juror: LYNN MCCLOW Jacksonville Watercolor Society Member Lynn McClow resides in Jacksonville, Florida where her interests in art began at an early age. Private lessons in oil painting provided the foundation and techniques she still applies today. An introduction to watercolor would not come until the year 2009., as she enrolled in class. It was the turning point for what would become her life-long passion. She became interested in studying and learning new skills in watercolor. It has been a journey without end. As a retired Fashion Event Director for a department store group, she finds that her exposure to textiles, colors, designs, and patterns has influenced her art. She refers to her art as, "a mirage of nature; a vision of Florida's natural beauty and day to day life enhanced with color." Her path of self-discovery continues as she participates in both class and workshop opportunities. As a member of the Jacksonville Artist Guild, Lynn has served as a past member of the board and two terms as President of the organization. She holds membership in the Jacksonville Watercolor Society, Art Guild of Orange Park, First Coast Plein Air Painters, St. Augustine Artists Association and the Florida Watercolor Society where she has received recognition and rewards for her work. |
The First Place winner of our Autumn Leaves exhibit is
"Mountain Road" by Bronwen Chandler "The artist has captured the theme, Autumn Leaves, with a vibrant arrangement of fall colors repeated throughout the painting. In the composition, the artist takes the viewer down on a country road, intersected by a warm path of sunlight. The warm vivid colors are complemented by the cool negative shapes of trees and shrubs. A balance of soft greens, cool shadows, and light sky places the viewer in the middle of a colorful forest during the fall season." - Juror Lynn McClow Click Here for more info... |
The Second Place Winner of Autumn Leaves
is Dr. Douglas Johnson for "Fall in the Mountains" The artist has beautifully rendered the mountain slopes, a tiered forest, and mountain stream in a composition that leads the viewer through the painting. Fall in the Mountains projects a vibrant foreground of fall color, while a dapple of light awaits the viewer toward the end of the stream. Soft cool shades of varying color used in the forest and mountain range provide the perfect complimentary colors to fall. The artist has provided realistic depth perception to the vast outdoor wilderness.

The Third Place Winner for Autumn Leave
is Photographer Mary Atwood for "Fall Freeze" One can only imagine how difficult it is for a photographer to capture just the right moment, as a drop of moisture is destined to fall. In the photo titled, Fall Freeze, the photographer provides a close-up view of glistening leaves as they shed the morning dew. The vibrant shades of gold and russet reds featured in the leaves have been perfectly arranged by nature. Using a depth of field, the photographer makes a striking artistic work of art!

Honorable Mention for Autumn Leaves
is to Artist Leila Griffith "Big Bear Pen Road" The artist draws the viewer into the painting with a strategically placed path that winds through the painting. Bold reds and gold leaves in the foreground are just beginning the transition for fall. The colors are softened and repeated along the path and echoed in the distant trees, where muted greens and gold are offset by shaded areas and skies of blue. The artist has artfully woven a tapestry of color and intrigue along Big Bear Pen Road.
