“and off, off, and away.
It's a sad day. The full moon Up in the sky Disturbing everyone but not me... I'm being exposed at the moment. The passions of the subconscious mind, Why tell me to Is God about this? |
Turn the pages of existence!
Floating in the subconscious mind Other countries and times. Along the Moon Strip Off to the road, What's going to happen, and where?! and a big distance, and afar I’ll hit the road...” |

Prior to 2016 I had never painted or drawn anything. My interest in faces is fueled by 30+ years of collecting various prints, statuary, masks, original works, and paintings by artist from Africa, the Caribbean, and the US.
I find faces quite intriguing because of the beauty, depth, and character conveyed in the eyes, mouths and expressions of people and pictures that I observe. Much of my work consists of composite likenesses of faces that I find beautiful on multiple levels.
In 2016-2017, I had the privilege and honor to study acrylic painting with Donna Manson (donnamansonart.com), who continues to encourage me. Additionally, in 2016-2017, I exhibited at The Mansion House Gallery-Valley Arts Association, Meritus Medical Center, Maloo's Pub, and the Western Maryland Arts Council - all in Hagerstown, MD.

My works have been selected for 4 juried shows. I have sold works to collectors in Atlanta, Maryland, DC, Savannah, Orlando, Miami, and Boston. I have received a best in class (mixed media) 1st place award in 2018, 2 honorable mentions in 2018-2019. I was the featured artist at the Players by the Sea Theater and at Reddi Arts galleries. Additionally, I was the featured artist at the Jacksonville ballet in September-December 2021, and currently at TAC. I have also participated in the "And Justice for All" art exhibition in May 2023.
My budding interest in mixed media provides an outlet for me to add texture to my works on canvas using a variety of found objects, flatware metals, and a range of eco-friendly/recyclable materials. I am proud to introduce masks into my collection of creations. |
Some of my other interests includes yoga, cooking, and coaching others to realize and manifest their talents and potential.

Artist Bio I was born in Nigeria - Jos, Plateau State, to missionary parents. I attended Hillcrest School, first grade through twelfth, with the same 32 classmates in which 15 different nationalities were represented, and a handful of different religions. I graduated with a BFA from Calvin College, having also studied in Lacoste, France on scholarship through the Cleveland Institute of Art. |
I lived in Michigan for 13 years before the cold weather sent my search elsewhere to what I was used to growing up in Africa. I have been in Jacksonville since 2001 and had an art show scheduled with the Beaches Fine Arts Series prior to moving there. I served on Beaches Series Board for 12 years, as it’s Visual Arts Coordinator, finding visual artists to display at the receptions.
I am a founding member of Jacksonville Cultural Development Corporation (f/k/a Jacksonville Consortium of African American Artists) 2004; and also a founding member and President of The Art Center Cooperative Inc. (TAC) 2005. Since the inception of these two organizations, it has been full immersion into running these organizations and working in the community, keeping the arts alive through mural work and art workshops. I am also the current vice president of the The Jacksonville Artists Guild.
My art mainly depicts people - the vast and unique personalities and relationships; and also tells stories of my childhood and the uniting of cultures/races. Often incorporated into my reliefs are drawing motifs from the tradition of wood carvings, textile patterns, uli motifs and symbols from various West African tribal folk tales/myths. The lizard is often seen tattooed down the middle of the forehead among the Avadi people who live in Niger State. It represents good luck in the forms of a protective spirit, fertility symbol, household tranquility, bounty, and wisdom (Ibo, Dogon, Barnum, Babanki, Avadi and Egyptian cultures). You will see a lizard in most of my woodcuts.
Relief printing and wood engraving has been around for centuries in both Europe and the Far East. In Europe, Woodcut is the oldest technique used for old master prints, developing about 1400, by using, on paper, existing techniques for printing on cloth. Albretch Durer brought woodcuts to the foreground. In the 1860s Japanese prints influenced some of my favorite artists Edvard Munch and Paul Gauguin. In the 20th century, Ernst Ludwig Kircher of the Die Brücke group developed a process of producing colored woodcut prints using a single block applying different colors to the block with a brush à la poupée and then printing (halfway between a woodcut and a monotype). I tend to use this technique quite a bit.
I have exhibited at the Haskell Gallery at the Jacksonville International Airport, the Appleton Museum, the Beaches Museum, the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens, Ritz Theatre & LaVilla Museum, Wilson Center for the Arts Gallery at FSCJ South Campus, Karpeles Manuscript Museum, Reddi Arts Gallery 1037, FSCJ North Campus gallery, FSCJ Kent Campus gallery, Thomas Center Gallery in Gainesville, the Vandroff Art Gallery at the Jewish Community Alliance, Beaches Fine Art Series, Riverside Fine Arts Series, the Grune Family Gallery at Players by the Sea, the Unitarian Universalist Church gallery, the Women's Center of Jacksonville, Latitude Café, Midtown Deli, Stein Mart Building, Riverside Arts Festival, World of Nations Celebration, Kingsley Plantation, , and Juneteenth Festival at Lincoln Park in Gainesville.

Reception: Aug 11, 2024 2-4pm About the Artist:
I am a Plein air painter. That means I go places to paint outdoors. This venue of painting has a long history and has become very popular in the past 20-30 years. There are many competitions across the USA and other parts of the world. One of advantages of this movement are trips have come available to go to places just to paint and experience the culture. I have been extremely fortunate to have gone on five. Each time it has been a special time with great memories, making new friends and some artwork painted by me. |

PEGGY HARRELL JENNINGS
Birds of a Feather Although she generally portrays a variety of subjects in her artwork, Harrell Jennings has chosen to focus on the beauty and challenges of painting birds for the exhibition, “Birds of a Feather.” Each bird represented comes from a personal encounter whether in her yard, the beach, or on nature walks and hikes. She frequently photographs her subject matter then interprets -whether realistically or expressionistically - according to the chosen media and the moment. For this exhibit she explored various techniques and interpretations with watercolor, acrylic, oil, and mixed media to present and interpret her feathered friends in their natural environment and in her imagination. |
SRI DEEPIKA ANCHA
Indian Tribal Art My art includes Indian Tribal Art. Tribal / folk art includes madhubani, lippan, kolams, mandalas, warli, pichwai. Each method has been originated from different states in India. I work primarily in acrylics, oil, ink, epoxy compound and modeling paste. I currently work from my home. Lippan is clay art. It is from Gujarat (state in India). It is mostly done by village women to decorate their home. Warli is from Maharashtra. It is believed to be one of the oldest art forms from history. This type of art consists of triangle shaped figures, both human and animal form. Village women decorate outer walls of their homes with this kind of painting. Each house tells a story. Pichwai is from Rajasthan. It is mainly about Indian deities. Kolams are from the southern part of India where women decorate the ground at the entrance of their homes. |

Exhibition: Dec 4th, 2021 - Dec 18th, 2021 Mon-Sat 12pm-5pm
Reception: Dec 4th, 2021 1pm-4pm
|
Artist Bio: Delia Yan was born and raised in Jacksonville, FL. She is currently attending the University of North Florida for her BFA in Ceramics. She primarily uses stoneware clay as her medium. Yan's coil-built work explores how elements such as color, form, and texture affect the viewer’s perception of the piece. Her inspiration stems from the study of aesthetics, and she hopes to find more ways to manifest emotions through her work. Her work has been exhibited at the UNF Gallery of Art, the Lufrano Intercultural Gallery, and MOCA.
Artist Statement: Through the use of organic forms, color, and visual weight, I create works that are alluring and sensuous. I use ceramics as my medium to capture the dual roles of utility and decoration. At times, my pieces lean more towards function, and at other times, they are solely sculptural. I feel there is a distinct type of appreciation for a piece where both these qualities coexist, rather than having a sole purpose. I am inspired by the relationship between the mind and reality. I am intrigued by the varying perspectives people have when interpreting a piece. I use nonobjectivity as the focus for my forms to bring about a consciousness within the viewer and use ...
