The Art Center’s service to the community earned us the honor of receiving the 2009 Art of Caring Award from HandsOn Jacksonville.

We strive to give our time and talents to better our community through both partnerships with local charities and our own privately developed and funded programs.  Our community service projects include but are not limited to:

  • Murals for non-profit organizations
  • Special events to benefit non-profit organizations
  • Outreach programs for local children, especially those residing in under-served areas.

Some of the events in which TAC members have participated, both as an organization and/or on an individual basis would include:

We are currently raising money for It's Still Elementary Art Supply Fundraiser for Title 1 Schools in Duval County.  Please Help if you can (Find out More)

Our work in the Community 2020:
It's Elementary that Art Teachers need Supplies
TAC raised $4000 and provided 200 elementary students with art supplies.

It’s Elementary -  that Duval ART TEACHERS need supplies (Why this was so important)
COVID 19 has really impacted Jacksonville students, particularly the arts programs. The Art Center cooperative has contacted a number of schools to see how we can help. We immediately heard back from a number of art teachers, desperate for art supplies for the new school year. The virus has impacted them is a number of ways:
  1. Kids aren’t allowed to share art supplies anymore. Classroom supplies were built on the concept of sharing and there are not enough materials to go around.
  2. The school supply list sent out included a lot of virus protection materials, but limited art supplies. Costs for the new supplies puts a burden on families already financially impacted by the pandemic.
  3. Recommendation is that school free time is spent outdoors, however kids are not allowed to congregate or play together. Teachers have found that outdoor art projects is a good way to keep the kids occupied and provide a creative outlet.
The 25 members of The Art Center felt there was something we could do. We collected donations and materials that helped three schools initially but we knew the need was great so continued our efforts through 10/15/2020. We were able to supply 200 elementary students in Duval county with their art supplies. A typical student needs a minimum of $20 in art supplies.  See  Our Donors List and the Schools we Helped.

We Reached: $4001
Fundraising Dates: 9/1/2020 – 10/15/2020

Other Community Outreach Projects in prior years:
  • Art Unleashed, to benefit First Coast No More Homeless Pets
  • Empty Bowls, to benefit Second Harvest North Florida
  • Sounds of Hope, to benefit Hope Haven Children’s Clinic

In October 2009, The Art Center created and hosted its first charity event, Artsy Bras, to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and The Donna Foundation.

In an effort to give back to the community, The Art Center has in the past provided murals free of charge (not including supplies) to enhance the property of non-profit organizations.  Due to the high volume of requests and limited resources, we have implemented a mural request policy.  If you are a 501(c)(3) organization and desire to have a mural, please complete the following form and a board member from TAC will contact you to discuss the terms of the agreement. Download the Mural Request Form Below.
