About TAC

The Art Center was formed to provide the Jacksonville community with a wealth of art opportunities.

ABOUT KIDS ROCK OUR WORLD AND ONLINE GALLERY

We want to create a gallery of your public Art.  Please decorate your rock art and place it in a public space, like a park or garden, near a sidewalk, in your front yard…

Then, take a picture of your rock in its location, and we will post it on the TAC website under About TAC > KIDS ROCK OUR WORLD Art Project.  Please include your name and age if you want it posted on the website.  You can also put where your rock is.  This must be done with the parents' permission.  PLEASE HAVE YOUR ROCK IN PLACE, PHOTOGRAPHED AND EMAILED TO [email protected] BY APRIL 15TH, 2024 SO THAT WE CAN MAKE THE "KIDS ROCK OUR WORLD" MAP.

IF WE GET ENOUGH, WE CAN HAVE A DOWNLOADABLE MAP AND ROCK HUNT!  AFTER YOUR ROCK HUNT WE WANT TO GET THE COMMUNITY INVOLVED ON SOCIAL MEDIA LOOKING FOR YOUR ARTWORK.  LETS ROCK JACKSONVILLE!

Five Reasons Why Public Art Matters

Art in public spaces plays a distinguishing role in our country’s history and culture. It reflects and reveals our society, enhances meaning in our civic spaces, and adds uniqueness to our communities. Public art humanizes the built environment. It intersects past, present, and future, between disciplines and ideas. Public art matters because our communities gain cultural, social, and economic value through public art.
  1. Economic Growth and Sustainability. By engaging in public art as a tool for growth and sustainability, communities can thrive economically. Seventy percent of Americans believe that the “arts improve the image and identity” of their community.
  2. Attachment and Cultural Identity. Public art directly influences how people see and connect with a place, providing access to aesthetics that support its identity and making residents feel appreciated and valued. Aesthetics is one of the top three characteristics why residents attach themselves to a community.
  3. Artists as Contributors. Providing a public art ecosystem supports artists and other creatives by validating them as essential contributors to the community. Artists are highly entrepreneurial. They are 3.5 times more likely than the total U.S. workforce to be self-employed.
  4. Social Cohesion and Cultural Understanding. Public art provides a visual mechanism for understanding other cultures and perspectives, reinforcing social connectivity with others. Seventy-three percent of Americans agree that the arts “helps me understand other cultures better.”
  5. Public Health and Belonging. Public art addresses public health and personal illness by reducing stress, providing a sense of belonging, and addressing stigmas toward those with mental health issues. Public art is noted for slowing pedestrians down to enjoy their space and positively impacting mood.
