COVID 19 has really impacted Jacksonville students, particularly the arts programs. The Art Center cooperative has contacted a number of schools to see how we can help. We immediately heard back from a number of art teachers, desperate for art supplies for the new school year. The virus has impacted them is a number of ways:
- Kids aren’t allowed to share art supplies anymore. Classroom supplies were built on the concept of sharing and there are not enough materials to go around.
- The school supply list sent out included a lot of virus protection materials, but limited art supplies. Costs for the new supplies puts a burden on families already financially impacted by the pandemic.
- Recommendation is that school free time is spent outdoors, however kids are not allowed to congregate or play together. Teachers have found that outdoor art projects is a good way to keep the kids occupied and provide a creative outlet.
