Eric Rakov
Eric Rakov is an avid drawer and art student who attended the Rochester Institute of Technology and earned a BFA in Graphic Design and an AA in Illustration. After graduation, he got swept into the Internet frenzy of the late 90s and joined a tech startup designing websites, eventually leading to a successful IT project management career. In 2014, Eric met his wife Nikki (an art teacher and artist), and his creative side was re-awakened.
Eric works in traditional media such as acrylics and oils, and recently more focus on collages using cut magazines primarily. He applies the media in what he calls a painterly style, building colors in layers and creating dark shadows and bright highlights. For Eric, the most enjoyable part of the process is in the thick of the work itself, thoroughly transfixed and losing track of time while creating a piece. The most challenging part? Knowing when to stop.
Eric has been an active member of the St. Augustine Art Association and serves on the Board as VP. He is married with two daughters and two stepsons. In addition to art, he spends his free time playing guitar, traveling, fitness, and playing poker. His day job is in IT, where he is Development Team Leader at McKesson.
