About the Artist:
I am new to art making. After 6 years of inspired intentionality, creating, practicing, and sharing my work, I am still reluctant to call myself an “artist”. Prior to 2016 I had never painted or drawn anything. My interest in faces is fueled by 30+ years of collecting various prints, statuary, masks, original works, and paintings by artists from Africa, the Caribbean, and the US. I find faces quite intriguing because of the beauty, depth and character conveyed in the eyes, mouths and expressions of people and pictures that I observe. Much of my work consists of composite likenesses of faces that have made an impact on me. In 2016-2017, I had the privilege and honor to study acrylic painting with Donna Mason (donnamasonart.com), who continues to encourage me. Additionally, in 2016-2017, I exhibited at The Mansion House Gallery-Valley Arts Association, Meritus Medical Center, Maloo’s Pub, and the Western Maryland Arts Council – all in Hagerstown, MD. |
My works have been selected for 3 juried shows and an art fair. I have sold works to collectors in Atlanta, Maryland, DC, Savannah, Orlando, Miami, and Boston. I have received a best in class (mixed media)1st place award in 2018, 2 honorable mentions. I have also exhibited at the lobby gallery at the Players by the Sea Theater and at Reddi Arts galleries. Additionally, I was the featured artist at the Jacksonville ballet in September-December 2021, and currently at TAC. I am currently participating in the “And Justice For All” art exhibition until May 2023. |
My budding interest in mixed media provides an outlet for me to add texture to my works on canvas using a variety of found objects, flatware metals, and a range of eco-friendly materials. I am proud to introduce masks into my collection of creations.
Some of my other interests include yoga, cooking, and coaching others. Recently I accepted a full-time position responsible for building organizational bench strength and a leadership pipeline for a non-profit.
