Steve Miller

Steve was born in Ashville, North Carolina, spent part of his childhood in St. Augustine, Florida, and has lived most of his life in Jacksonville, Florida. Steve has had an interest in art all his life. Success came early when he won a coloring contest at 12. His mother fueled his talent by allowing him to create large drawings on his bedroom walls. Steve began expanding more extensively upon his artistic talent approximately 15 years ago by taking classes at Florida State College at Jacksonville and studying with various private teachers, including pastel painting with Dorothy Etheridge and academy oil painting with Tony Wood, who is known in the local art community. Additionally, he has studied figure drawing for the past 12 years. Steve also taught art to children from elementary through high school at The Foundation Academy.
Steve enjoys painting with oils, pastels, and acrylics and drawing with pencil, ink, charcoal, and Conte, painting and drawing a wide range of subjects. He does commissioned portraits, as well as renderings of pets. And since Steve and his wife, Carol, live on their sailboat and love the sea, he often draws and paints sailboats and coastal scenes. Steve won Honorable Mention in a juried art show for his painting entitled “Brandi.”
Steve is a member of The Art Center Cooperative. He has participated in Jacksonville’s downtown ArtWalks for several years. He has been a featured artist at Chamblin’s Book Mine and Hemming Plaza Jewelers. He has also participated in the Beaches ArtWalks.
