My Grandfather & His Brother, Jacksonville 1908 by Julie Feldman
There is a story behind the painting. After my dear mother passed away, I was going through some boxes of old photographs and found this striking image of two serious young men looking straight into the camera. They were dressed formally and were wearing black hats with wide round brims. On the back, my mother had written, “Daddy and his brother, 1908”. I was so curious about what must have been going on in Jacksonville at that time that I started researching old news articles and decided to incorporate them into my painting, hopefully delving into the soul of the photograph that was my inspiration.
This piece is part of the “Jacksonville Past and Present” Bicentennial Exhibition.
