Low Country Boil by Jennifer Bothast
This depicts the energy around a fun birthday dinner with extended family. The movement and spirals are important to Jennifer and often appear in the composition as design elements and as tempos of light and darkness. Spirals reflect the journeys of growth and understanding regardless of the actual subject matter portrayed. Something as simple as a tree or a section of a floral garden is also a symbol of life and an evolution of consciousness. Each curve within the spiral allows one to revisit past lessons with a new perspective and depth.
Bio: Jennifer was always an artsy kid, choosing to draw alone rather than play with peers, but her art education really began with private lessons at age 12. She then graduated from a magnet arts high school and attended Ringling College of Art and Design. Jennifer has an A.S. In Occupational Therapy B.S. in Health Sciences/Gerontology and recently earned a massage therapy license. Over the last 20 years that she has been steadily painting, her more recent confidence and style allow more play and freedom in her work. She believes she is strongly influenced by Kandinsky and Franz Marc, but also has studied closely under Jeanne Bessette and has come to learn from and admire many other contemporary artists online. Jennifer currently lives in Green Cove Springs, Fl, and has exhibited both locally and internationally.
This piece is part of the "What's on Your Table?" Exhibition at the Main Library in downtown Jacksonville Fl. from November 28th - January 5th. If you need the piece before the end of the exhibit, please notify us at 904-233-9252, and we will arrange an early pickup. Reception December 7th, 6pm-8pm.
