Balanced Diet by Ed Malesky
A classical measure of skill for a woodturner is to turn some wooden fruit. With this piece, I decided to take it to the extreme and turn every kind of fruit that I could think of. Each piece of fruit was turned in maple or sweetgum and then dyed to match the color of the real fruit. Traditionally, it would have been more common to put the fruit in a bowl; the appeal of making a fruit sculpture was too strong, with each piece pinned together in the balanced tower.
This piece is part of the "What's on Your Table?" Exhibition at the Main Library in downtown Jacksonville Fl. from November 28th - January 5th. If you need the piece before the end of the exhibit, please notify us at 904-233-9252, and we will arrange an early pickup. Reception December 7th, 6pm-8pm.
