All Mothers Weep
All Mothers Weep by Peggy Harrell Jennings
Providing for the children, tending to the home, crops and livestock, caring for the elderly and fending off attacks of invading troops while the menfolk were away at war was the lot for women left behind - black and white- privileged or enslaved - for the women of the South during the War Between the States. The names on this piece are the names of men in my family who fought or died during the so-called Civil War and a few of the names of the wives, sisters and mothers who persevered through fear, loneliness, incredible hardship and loss. Like ALL women who suffer in ALL wars - They are worthy of honor.
