The Downtown Jacksonville waterfront is currently being revived. The Landing, the Duval County Courthouse, and City Hall have all recently been demolished. This painting depicts the skyline prior to these big changes. If you stand on the Southbank of the St Johns River near Friendship Fountain in the early morning as I did, the vista looks quite different today. The Southbank will soon change as well. So take a walk next to the river the next time you are in the San Marco area and enjoy.
The Jacksonville Landing (also informally known as “The Landing”) was a Marketplace in Downtown Jacksonville, Fl. It was located at the intersection of Independent Drive and Laura Street, along the Jacksonville Riverwalk. It was built by the Rouse Company and opened in 1987 with a week-long celebration. The Landing officially closed after the 4th of July festivities in 2019. Demolition was completed in January of 2020.
