When Hurricane Irma's storm surges inundated Riverside Memorial Park on Sept. 11, 2017, many feared that the written names of hundreds of World War I dead buried within it were forever lost.
But not only have the scrolled names of 1,220 of Florida's fallen encased within Memorial Park's soaring "Life" statue been restored and preserved, research has since uncovered 540 more names of soldiers who died in battle or afterward due to injuries or illness related to the Great War.
