When I was a new resident at the beaches the set of wooden poles sunk into the sand at the south end of Jacksonville beach were a mystery to me. Were they from an old pier? Were they part of a residence or building that a hurricane destroyed? Not so dramatic! They simply mark the end of the beach maintenance for Duval County. However, they are indelibly etched in the memories of native beach residents.
