I snapped this picture while touring Fort Clinch in Fernandina Beach to use as a reference photo for a painting. Then, I realized that the photo was a work of art in itself! The beauty of the brickwork in this arched hallway is captured perfectly. Fortunately, a few people recognized the significance of this historic site, and Fort Clinch became one of Florida’s first state parks in 1935. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) began restoring the buildings at the fort in 1936, thanks to the New Deal Proclamation.
