In mid-2022, I challenged myself to try a new approach to creating expressive abstract faces and expressions outside of using paint and a brush.
Early in my mask journey, I was prompted to create a series of masks initially from recyclable materials.
Essentially, I gave myself permission to reimagine how to incorporate eco-friendly/recyclable materials to create neutral tone-on-tone masks with an African/tribal twist. I managed to include a metal mask fashioned with some of my mother’s old formal dinner flatware, silver serving pieces, old brooches, and bracelets. I am grateful for the renowned Laurence Walden’s inspiration, patient artistic and manual guidance on this metal assemblage path.
