This painting brings back memories of spring and early summer in Ohio. My Father was a very good gardener. When the irises bloomed, the flowers were always so majestic in color and shape. The colors, the frilly outer leaves of the blooms were so unique.
I started this painting as a watercolor, but wanted to get more depth and contrast so I added a deeper background using some acrylic paints. The drama of this contrast better displayed these beautiful flowers. It was important to capture their beauty because they would only bloom once a year. I hope you love irises as much as I do.
