Knobs by Ed Malesky is a sphere-like sculpture with knobs all around the surface carved from soft maple.
"I have been fascinated with turning spheres. I find the shape demanding and very interesting to turn from wood, where drying and temperature changes can change the shape. This usually requires a series of returning stages until I achieve the final piece. Adding texture and decoration to spheres really gives me some chances to play with the round form. In this case the knobs added great visual impact. Each row of knobs is 10% smaller keeping the knobs proportional along the surface.
This piece is actually a hollow box. The top knob can be removed giving a great place to store those "special" things."
