The Jacksonville Artists' Guild is the legacy of well-known and respected artist, Christine Schmidt (1922-2009.) In the fall of 2009 Carole Mehrtens and Bill Schmidt approached Jon Coffee, Rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, with the idea of creating an artist's guild. He was immediately enthusiastic and supportive to fulfill Christine’s long-time desire and dream to establish an artist's guild for Jacksonville to encourage and support area artists and those interested in art appreciation. The first formal meeting of the Jacksonville Artists Guild was held on October 9, 2009 at St. Mark’s Leatherbury Hall.
The Jacksonville Artist's Guild now holds artists presentations at The Lakeshore Ladies Club in Jacksonville, FL November through May. It is an opportunity for artists and art lovers to come together for conversation and then watch well known area artists from all different mediums speak intimately with the group about all aspects of their creative process. The guild also provides artists for RAP events and has a variety of art exhibitions throughout the year. Visit Jacksonville Artists Guild - Jacksonville Florida's Professional Artist Network for more information. JAG is thrilled to by one of the main contributors to the arts at the city's Bicentennial celebration. |
