Captivated
Captivated
by Alyssa Hennigar
In 2019 I taught myself how to watercolor paint. Towards the end of the year, I made a sketch of a tiger, one of my favorite animals. At the time it was one of my biggest drawings taking up the entire 8" x 10" mixed media paper I was working on. Previously I was working with small watercolor studies of big cats. I painted my tiger at the beginning of 2020 but didn't collage and frame it until March 2022. I poured my heart and soul into my tiger piece, experimenting and exploring various collage material and three-dimensional placements with the matting. I also collaged other drawings of mine into the final piece: a hummingbird moth and some flowers I had drawn in 2021. I titled this piece Captivated because it describes the scene of wandering up to the tiger, and both the viewer and the tiger are captivated by one another.
The "Wild Things" Exhibition runs from February 11th - March 26th, 2023. The Exhibition will be held on Sunday, February 26th, 2pm-4pm.
