Empathy - The Other Shoe by Lisa Lofton
I always enjoy painting shoes. They describe everyone so well with the design and the function. From boots to dress shoes, they represent lifestyles. That is why I found the shoes at the US Holocaust Museum compelling.
Often, we hear the victims of the holocaust mentioned as a whole. I think it’s essential to think about each individual and the lives they lead. Who were they? What were their lives like? Who were they to others? What do we have in common with them? If hate prevails, could this happen to us? These people were robbed of their individuality and their futures, most horrifically.
Observe the ink print inside the shoes; it reminds us of the owner's uniqueness while reinforcing the relatability of the roles each of these people played in the lives.
